Medical bills make up the bulk of claims expenses. SCF Arizona's goal is to provide injured workers the most effective medical treatment at a reasonable cost, because studies show that the sooner an injured worker receives appropriate care and gets back to work, the better the outcome for everyone. Under Arizona law, employers may direct their injured workers in writing to a physician or clinic of the employer's choice on a one-time basis, usually at the time of the first office visit. By directing the injured worker to a preferred provider, employers are taking the first step toward managing claims expenses. Although workers are free to choose their own doctors after that, they usually continue to see by the same physician. Network providers also agree to make referrals only to other providers within the PCN.
